What are health habits
As defined by the World Health Organization, “health is a state of well-being. Health is therefore much more than a state in which disease is absent. In today’s society, we relate being “healthy” to not having a major illness and tend not to reflect on our health habits. Often, we depend on conventional medicine or pharmaceuticals to serve as the only solution for WHEN we fall short of our ‘health’ norm; ignoring prevention and our general well-being until something is incredibly wrong. There are many ignored ways to avoid your health from falling short without relying on medical norms that most consumers use without being aware of risks or side effects. As a society, we should stop excluding other disciplines that help: avoid, heal and increase the state of overall health.
The benefits of oncological treatment optimized by sustained immunity and sporting activities have already been proven.
At Family Self Care, we want to focus on what is most influential in our health, the most overlooked and least expensive solution: PREVENTION.
Prevention is a health habit aimed to obstruct diseases of environmental origin and at creating an environment favorable to health
Before being indicated as a category of the medical sciences, health was considered an “energy of one” (Schütz, 1998 [1955]) that is not separable of person’s activities, behavior, and personal characteristics.
The progress of sciences as diverse as biology, chemistry or epidemiology demonstrate links between groundwater being polluted by the excess of nitrates used particularly (but not exclusively) in agriculture; food stemming from industrial agriculture is full of pesticides and other chemicals which are manually added; also, the air which we inhale conveys asbestos fibers and nanoparticles which have economic activity and are the vectors of severe threats to our health.
Chemicals which we considered harmless appear as formidable endocrine disruptors. The negative effects of all these pollutants can be passed on to great distances by wind, sea currents or planes and with time: the victims can give birth to newborns who have been contaminated since the womb, which can cause malformations, sometimes reoccurring for several generations.
It is necessary to retract to original humane ways of thinking, to act for our health and change our health habits.
The first step will be to resume pursuing health and prevention. Plants and Essential Oils at our disposal allow the 4 rules of prevention to assist us:
- Accompany the body in its compulsory functional modifications, bound to the changes of season.
- Rebalance the regulating systems of the body (neurovegetative and endocrine.)
- Support the adaptive systems dependent on the suprarenal gland.
- Drain organs such as the liver, pancreas, loins, and lungs.
- Remineralize the body in general
A healthy lifestyle will allow your immune system to react better to viruses and other concerns.
Two striking stories
The first one takes place during the Big Black Plague in Europe. Thieves were captured in an offense of flight on corpses and were brought in front of the King. Although having interacted with corpses exposed them to the disease, none of the thieves had contracted it… Later, we discovered that the thieves all came from the same family, Apothecaries’ family who knew a specific combination of Essential Oils to fight against diseases. This formula of Essential Oils was passed on from generation to generation, resulting in the King forcing the thieves to communicate this formula and teach him how to extract the oils. This formula was kept among the royal archives.
The second story takes place in England during the same Black Plague. Indeed, the city of Bucklersbury had been saved of the Plague too while the inhabitants of surrounding cities succumbed to the disease. The explanation is that the city of Bucklesbury was trading Lavender at that time. Lavender is famous for its therapeutic properties favoring a good immune system as well as antimicrobial properties.
After a progressive evolution of the research, the active ingredients of molecules are classified from the XIXth century.
It is to René-Maurice Gattefossé that we owe the word “aromatherapy” too. The legend says that he discovered the soothing, antiseptic and healing properties of the Essential Oil of Lavender by whitewashing his hand gangrénée further to a grave burn. But this version is debated.
Between 1971 and 1981, Doctor Valnet based organizations intended to enrich the scientific research and to teach this knowledge to the practitioners. He drafted numerous works on the subject to inform the public of aromatherapy. He created his own aromatic compositions, slowed down the studies on the anti-infective properties and the anti-antibiotics of Essential Oils.
Which brought to life the term “aromatogramme.” To indicate the antibiotic actions of an Essential Oil, a term invented by Dr. Maurice Girault in 1971.
Doctor Daniel Pénoël and Pierre Franchomme introduced scientific aromatherapy and chémotype (chemical type) which paved the way to move closer to the therapeutic properties that make up Essential Oils.
Of our days
For many years, Vogue has raved about aromatherapy, as it has become a very trendy practice.
Because more than fashion, Essential Oils are the true makeover. Recognized for their powerful therapeutic abilities, Essential Oils have a multitude of specific properties: calming, toning, anti-fatigue or pain relieving.
They can, therefore, help to heal our daily bobos, to manage our pains, but also to improve our health habits.
However, even if Essential Oils are beneficial for our health, it is necessary to remain cautious about their use which remains complicated.
Essential oils are not dangerous, but some can be toxic. That is why, depending on their toxicity, they must be mixed with vegetable oil or banned for babies and pregnant women.
So, of course, don’t try miracle potions without being at least informed, after all, this is all about your improved health.
